The World Record was broken at 14:43

Saturday 9th September 2000
Well Done!
New World Record of 241 Miles, 133 Yards, 2 Feet and 3 Inches
(387,975 metres).
In September 1997, a group of people set out to attempt four
things. The first was to try and make people more aware of
the plight of people with cerebral
palsy, second to break a world record, third to raise
money and the fourth to have a good time acheiving the previous
three.
On September 13th and 14th 1997 the record was set... a
new world record, completing 216.263 miles (216 miles, 462
yards, 2 feet, 7 inches) with over 60 pushers, recognised
but not published by The Guinness Book Of Records, for continuously
pushing a person in a wheelchair for a period of 24 hours.
NOW IT'S TIME TO DO IT AGAIN!!!
Starting at 5.00pm on Friday 8th September and ending at
5.00pm the following day, members, friends and supporters
of Cumbria Cerebral
Palsy Society's Maryport Branch, will begin their assault
on setting yet another World Wheelchair Pushing Record at
Whitehaven's Copeland Athletic Stadium.
We already have many local supporters, including the athletic
stadium, Kirkland
Comets Workington speedway team, specialist wheelchair
manufacturers Otto
Bock and our local press Cumbrian
Newspapers Group. Many of the volunteer pushers are West
Cumbrian fell runners and road runners, but anyone who wants
to come along, join in and be part of a record breaking weekend
is more than welcome!!!
See you on Friday and Saturday 8th and 9th September 2000
at the Copeland Stadium, Whitehaven.
